Important information regarding issue of passports from 1 November 2007
Under Germany's new Passport Act, from 1st November 2007 every German passport (red cover) must include fingerprints as part of the personal data now stored on a chip at the back of the passport.
From 1 November 2007, when the new Passport Act takes effect, the following changes will apply:
European Union Passport
• Will require fingerprints of all applicants aged over 6.
• Children will no longer be entered on their parents’ passports.
• Monastic names and pseudonyms will no longer be included.
• Validity will be 6 years for applicants aged under 24, 10 years for applicants aged 24 or over
Temporary Passport
• Children will no longer be entered on their parents’ passports.
• Monastic names and pseudonyms will no longer be included.
In addition to the new ePassports the temporary (green) passports with a validity of one year will continue to be processed without a chip within a few days time.
